A Little Help ~

working away.....
Holed up either in my sewing room watching my fav movies on DVD
(hocus pocus, witches of eastwick, practical magic...|
yeah I know, etc, etc, etc....)
~ or ~ smack dab in front of the TV watching my fav programs ~
(I won't bore you with details, but i LOVE anything paranormal...surprise? yeah...I didn't think so)
So anyhoo....
I work with my hands SO much ~ as most of you do too ~ that I thought ....
a little
"Helping Hand"
would be welcomed...

so I've created a few for the
Ghoultide Gathering Show, coming up before i  (YOU) know it!!!
six different little hands, stuffed with batting ~ holding an antique spool of thread & a vintage pin-or-two...

I decided to add a cuff of early. cream colored LACE for a cuff for each hand...

twigs collected from our baryard act as stems...
and Old Thread Spools from my personal collection
accompany these hand pinkeeps ~

lots of different, early lace used as 'cuff's' for the 'helping hand' pinkeeps...and OLDE thread spools ~
.LOVE the look of these on my vintage SILVER tray ~

....all available at the Ghoutlide show this comeing weekend!

A Few Treats ~

working diligently on the finishes for the upcoming show ~
here are a couple more WIP's (works in progress) :

little stitchin' witch wearing her scissors

cat who couldn't wait for the pie ~

tiny black kitty-witch ~

elmerva clumpett's portrait

I've got lots more to do on these, as I'll be incorporating embroidery and wool applique on these pieces too, just on a (much) smaller scale than the previous project ~
(thanks to everyone for your sweet comments!)
oh, I've decided (with help from my friend Sherry) to name the large piece
"Keeper of the Spirits"
and, as soon as I can figure out how to,
I will be offering this type of work in some-sort-of  pattern form!
so, please be patient as I figure this all out ~
but let me tell you, it is highly addicting (and rewarding) to do this type of work!
mixing my love of all types of needlework into one craft....

...what could be more of a treat?

MORE Progress ~ Almost finished though!

Here's an update on the progress of my stitching
(don't know what to call it just yet...mixed media? any suggestions??)

I added 2 different black repro cotton calico prints to the bottom ~
then got a little crazy with headstones, vines and leaves....
more and more 'stuff'...
 I added the word 'october' and more calico pumpkins...
a little 'people' garden if you would....
 then I added grass & weeds near the headstones using Kreinik metallic threads ~ love them!
see the pumpkin's faces?
 added details to the headstones like words & dates, urns,
angel-head and willows...
"at rest"
 embellished a little more to the pumpkins by adding wool stems and thread...
straight stitch, satin stitch, fly stitch...all primitively done of course!

and,
here's what she'll look like once she's framed ~

pretty, no?
this piece is huge ~ measures approx. 36" long (3 feet!) by 18 1/2" wide...
I found the old frame whilst out & about with Joan & Flea
(also known as "The Dream Team")
and didn't know exactly what I would use it for ~ but know i know!

I can't believe that we'll be heading out to Michigan for the
show in a week ~
I'm working like a maniacal squirrel fueled by gallons of early grey & green tea
(caffiene is a wonderful thing!)

Let me know your thoughts on my progress, won't you?
Have a *SPARKLING* day my friends!!!

Progress ~

a couple of pics of thee latest WIP ~ still haven't named it yet, but it was in my last post...
you know the combined applique*punched*stitched*embroidered* etc* piece ~

as you can see, I've added a few embellishments ~

scissor charms ~

...tiny little skeleton key charms ~ the 'chain' around her waist was stitched by me using kreinik metallic threads...loveLOVE this look ~

I added calico 'flowers' on the vine next to her...embellished again with kreinik metallic threads in olde silver...looks like tarnished tinsel...

stitched her little brrom with DMC 834 & 3021 threads...like the simple look of this ~

Tomorrow I'll finish this piece ~ I'm thinking a sashed/quilted wall hanging will be the finish,
so I'll post then ~ lots of fun had working this piece!

Something Different ~

Sometimes I wake up reeeeeally early in the morning ~
like 3:00 AM early.
this morning was no different except that I couldn't get this out of my head.
a dimensional wool/punch/applique/embroidery piece that I want to make for Ghoultide ~

it's a "Wapplimpunchbroidery"...yeah, that's it.
 the only thing I haven't done yet is to add rug hooking,
but...

see that green strip of wool over there?

yeah, that one.
 I wanted to replicate a hooked look, but can't hook through the cloth, so I simply shirred the wool strip and tacked it into place...
~ looks like a hooked strip to me!

shirred wool strip will become a flower stem ~

not sure how I will finish this piece ~
...pillow? framed? wall hanging??

embellished embroidery stitches like colonial knots, satin stitch, straight stitch and blanket stitch
using Kreinik metallic braided threads ~
vintage french wired ribbon is stitched to her hat and accented with
little metallic colonial knots ~
the next thing I'll do is work on the leaves & the flowers coming from her little cauldron ~

perhaps I'll add some vines & berries,...maybe an owl, crow or two...
want to pack alot of detail into this piece :)
...then of course, I'll stain it with my walnut spice dye ~
....that will add so much to it too...

I'll share the finish with you soon!

p.s. many thanks for your emails regarding the Black Jack Rug with knotted fringe edge ~
I can't accept custom orders at the moment due to upcoming shows ~ thanks for understanding!

~ Gifts ~

after the show on Saturday, Peter & I were cleaning up the grounds a bit
(not that my vendor/friends left a mess, no...not at all they are all very neat & tidy!)
but
Sue & Dorrie did leave behind a few dried cornstalks, husks and dried cow-corn...
(Nocchi & Daisy thought they were getting them but they had enough)

soooo being the frugal one I am I scooped them up and placed some into my trencher on the diningroom table with my gourds & moss...

Thanks for the gifts girls! :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and here is a beautiful gift from my beloved ~
this beautiful old brass floorlamp with silk & beaded shade....
a bit torn & tattered but oh how I love how she glows...
and her beading is a bit 'off', but then again, so am I ~ a perfect pairing.
she is a gift from my hubby for our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary
(October 3rd)
and it was for sale in Dee's booth here at the show saturday (see last post)
I kept walking around it and admiring it and Dee told me it was her grandmothers' lamp...
Peter bought it for me and I just lovelove it :)
 Thank you for the gift, my Sweetheart!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and, this little doll in the picture below wasn't a gift, persay...
but reminds me of the gift of FRIENDSHIP ~

made by Tina of Burlap Owl (see last post again) ~
she sits under the glow of my gifted lamp, surrounded by my 'gifted' corncobs...

Wishing you many small gifts that fill yourt heart today!

Blessings from Notforgotten Farm,
